Periodontics

About the service

Oral health is fundamental to a good quality of life. Most people focus on brushing their teeth to keep them clean, but few worry about the health of their gums. Periodontics is the branch of dentistry that deals with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of periodontal diseases. At Dental Unit, we have a team of professionals specialized in this discipline to provide our patients with the best possible treatment.

Periodontal disease is a condition that affects the gums and tissues that support the teeth. This disease is caused by bacteria that accumulate in dental plaque and can damage the soft tissues and bones that support the teeth. If left untreated, the disease can lead to tooth loss and other oral health complications.

At Dental Unit, we are committed to preventing periodontal disease through education and awareness for our patients. It is critical that patients understand the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene and visiting the dentist regularly to detect and treat any dental problems before they develop into periodontal disease.

If the patient already has periodontal disease, our periodontal specialists will evaluate the patient’s dental health and determine the best course of treatment. Treatment may include a thorough dental cleaning to remove plaque and tartar build-up, as well as antibiotic treatment to fight the bacteria that cause the disease.

In addition to the basic treatments, at Dental Unit we have ancillary procedures to assist in dental rehabilitation, such as clinical crown lengthening and periodontal maintenance. Clinical crown lengthening is a procedure that consists of exposing more of the dental crown so that a dental restoration or dental implant can be performed. This procedure is very common in patients who have broken teeth or have suffered dental trauma.

Periodontal maintenance is an important process to prevent recurrence of periodontal disease in patients who have already been treated. This process involves regular removal of accumulated plaque and tartar and constant monitoring of the patient’s oral health.

On the other hand, hard tissue and soft tissue grafts are specialized procedures that support prosthetic goals in conjunction with the patient and the rehabilitator. Hard tissue grafts are used to restore bone loss in the jaws, which may be necessary prior to the placement of dental implants. Soft tissue grafts, on the other hand, are used to increase gum thickness and height and improve the aesthetics of the smile.

At Dental Unit, our periodontal specialists are highly trained and experienced to perform these procedures safely and effectively. We are committed to providing our patients with the best possible care to ensure their long-term oral health.
